So I was at men's group at my church this morning. And one of the brehs said this phrase which I never heard. And I was like dang, that's a positive way to look at life. Does anybody else look at trust this way? Like you go into any relationship based on trust until they break it.

I disagree, because trust doesn’t come into play with strangers. Someone doesn’t become trusted until they’re vetted and vetting comes from word of mouth or direct experiences with that person.

Do you trust a C grade restaurant to not make you sick from their food? Why? They didn’t break your trust, so let them slide. *sarcasm* Nah, you don’t trust them because they haven’t earned the reputation to be trusted.

but how does the reputation develop? some people somewhere trusted the restaurant, and then the semblance of bad reviews cause others to not trust it

trust is always the default until something breaks it

Unfortunately no. You should’ve asked him if he ever left his hometown or not. People like this usually have very limited engagements with people. I would replace trust with respect. Respect I do agree is broken. I try to respect everyone I come into contact with regardless of their outward appearance or behaviors.

Nah, absolutely not. Maybe if I partition trust into different areas, maybe, but I've heard too many news reports where the neighbors are shocked about someone's criminal actions when they used to go to barbecues together.
