Exactly, especially California. It sounds like the easy way to go but really it's just dumping the responsibility on someone else. My ex moved back to the east coast with her moms, I tried to reach out to her to see if she'd pick it up at the airport and she says she's got a pit now

I don't care how you frame it, killing a healthy young cat is animal cruelty - if there's a population problem face it. Ask for restrictions on commercial breeding but killing young animals isn't right, just let them go if that's the case.
