Greenwald likes to get drunk off contrarianism and carry water for rightwing talking points regarding Russia and the 2016 election. He usually goes on Carlson's show to do it.

They at least have a working relationship so it's not surprising that he'd stick up for him. Given that Trump listens to Carlson and Bolsonaro stans Trump this won't really hurt him, though I doubt it actually helps.

I think Greenwald just hates Obama/Bushes/Clintons more than Trump because of foreign policy reasons. He won’t just say it though.

Eh, it's more like his rabid hatred for the foreign policy establishment, which the former are apart of, and intelligence community blinds him to the Trump's actions because he isn't of the establishment in the same way. Which is pathetic for a number of reasons but largely because Trump's advisors are of the establishment and are the worst people it has to offer.

That train left the station as soon as he started going out of his way to defend Putin, which is hilarious to me considering he is a gay guy and would be thrown off of a building over in Russia. This goes way beyond being skeptical of "Russiagate".
