You'll have to develop your own taste. If you don't care what women think then buy whatever you want. If you care, stay away from drinks that "look fruity," margaritas & daquiris in public, which contain light colored liquor & fruit juice and are dressed in tall, feminine looking bar glasses with cherries, limes and a STRAW. When in private, you can drink what you want! Your only use for a straw is to finish mixing a poorly made drink that a bartender made. NEVER drink liquor out of a straw and all of your drinks should be undressed(maybe tequila shots are an exception).
Here are the various common types of liquor:
The exotic drinks that women generally buy have about 2-4 different types of liquor and 1-2 types of juice.
Men generally buy the combo drinks: Crown/Henessee & Coke, Captain Morgan & Dr. Pepper.... if your not a heavy drinker or if you don't know if you'll like a drink, then order a "short!" Most bartenders will give you the short anyways unless you specify. The "short" is a 8 ounce wide cup or glass. You can order these drinks in a "tall" or "double" glass also. It costs more (like 7-10 depending on location/area). If you're comfortable with a drink, order the double! It'll save you frustration when it disappears quickly and another long wait in line at the bar.
Beer is an acquired taste, but if you're already drink, you won't be able to tell much difference. Beer comes in bottles(cheapest), mugs or pitchers(moderate) or buckets (in the south or other country places). Buckets are just simply 6-8 individual bottle of beer in a medium size metal ice bucket. A whole table can share that. Pitchers and mugs are for the professional beer drinker whi can handle more that a couple of beers in a night.
These are the basics to ordering drinks. I have more info if you need it.
Here are the various common types of liquor:
- Whiskey(or Bourbon) - Cheap brown liquor, generally disgusting tasting(to me), some are ok though
- Cognac - Refined whiskey, generally smooth tasting
- Rum - Dark like whiskey, but generally flavored
- Gin - stong, twisted taste, hard to explain.... sorta like a strong peppermint taste
- Vodka - Clear and distilled, literally like water
- Tequila - Spanish version of vodka, much stronger (drink with caution)
