My fault, maybe i should have been more specific, when i wrote "controller" I meant a dj controller.

Something like this is what I thought you were using for scratching
Roland - DJ-202 | DJ Controller

This guy shows you can scratch on them

With the Roland controllers, you can literally remix songs live using them being that they have a drum machine as part othe system, and use roland sounds from the tr-808, tr-909.

Dj Controllers have really come up over the years!

Yeah I don’t know much about dj software so I thought you meant midi. I been making beats for some years but still consider myself a beginner

Save yourself a lot of heartache, time, and money and get a Technics 1200, some shure M44-7's and a decent mixer. They will always hold their value if you decide to sell them on.

As far as mixers, I miss my Rane, but I needed a DVS mixer, so now I'm on a Traktor Z2 and the Innnofader is butter :blessed:

you're learning and never touched a record or turntable. don't go spend a bunch of money on shyt. get a direct drive turntable (numark has some cheapies that will get the job done) and a mixer as said above. cop dollar records and start learning and practicing with your stock needle or a cheap upgrade if you cop used. no reason to get caught up in gear first.

I’ve been using 1200s since 1996.
Did you say them shyts run for like two racks now? Goddamn!
I will say that Technics are the most reliable turntable. Other than the tracking light going out on one of mine, never had an issue with them.
If you get another brand, a good quality one is going to run at least $500. Read a lot of reviews, and don’t go cheap.

If you’re using decks with DJ software, the cartridge and stylus don’t have to be great. But if you’re using them analog, it matters a lot more. I use Shure M44s, they track very well (don’t skip), without a lot of weight, so it won’t wear out your records.
If you get the M44 cartridge, the stylus(needle) can be the 7 or the G. The 7 has a higher output, but it can also sound really sharp. The G has a smoother sound. I have both, and prefer the G.

I agree with this. With scratching what you do with the crossfader is almost as important as what you do with the record. I had mixers where the fader would crackle within days of purchase, or the curve of the fader was too much and made it hard to cut....

Got one of these in the end and never looked back

@Double Burger With Cheese Shure Just announced they are ending their phono line of products, that means their cartridges. So, you should go look at at ortofons if you need a cartridge

Appreciate the info. I didn’t know that. I planned on getting the Shure M44-7 I think. They are still in stock online now, so should I just order it now in case they won’t be available?

I did some more looking and found that I can get a used SL 1200 for $500-$600. I think I’m gonna go with that option since most people are recommending this model.

What do y’all think about this mixer? I planned on using this one

@Double Burger With Cheese If you are just scratching, that mixer is good

$500-$600 isn't bad, since 1200's are discontinued, but if you don't have money coming in constantly, I think you should get that Roland controller being that you can do so much more with it, you just have to use serato dj with it, that is the one flaw, but that isn't really a flaw to me, serato is a wonderful program.. The Roland dj 202 is just $299, and the roland dj 505 is just around $630

But if you want 1200's, do your thing, and that mixer is cool.

@Double Burger With Cheese I had the DIF 1S. it was cool, had a useable EQ as well, but the Z2>>>. Especially for the fact its got DVS built in, instant doubles of anything and I could cut up any record I wanted.

I did harvest the innofader from the DIF1S to put in my Z2 when I fukked mine up tho :mjlol: They both use the same mini innofader.

Techs are expensive because they went out of production.

Dont get a cheap direct drive turntable because if your trying to cut on some premo shyt then your going to need a quality turntable and lots and lots and LOTS of practice when it comes to forward, chirps, transforming and crab skratchin.

Get yourself a Pioneer PLX-1000, Shures and a Vestax 06pro to practice with. No need for a pair of your just trying to cut but if your trying to juggle the get 2.
