Mike Goens, a well respected newspaper journalist at the Times Daily in Florence, Ala. alleges that the Athletic Director (Curtis Campbell) at Tuskegee University made a request to segregate the fans when Tuskegee met the University of North Alabama in the first rounds of the NCAA Division II playoffs two weeks ago.
According to Goens, Campbell explained to University of North Alabama officials that “Tuskegee’s fans are overwhelmingly black and UNA’s are overwhelmingly white. Allowing the two fan bases to sit on the same side of the field would be risking danger, he said.”
The two teams played a spirited game on November 23, 2013 at Braly Stadium. UNA plays regular season games in Braly. However, the stadium is owned by the city of Florence. The game was won by UNA 30-27.
It was the first playoff appearance for Tuskegee, the winningest football program in Black College sports. The school previously played on Thanksgiving Day against Alabama State University and that commitment did not allow for participation in the NCAA playoffs.
According to Goens, Campbell first made his request to UNA officials and when they would not go along with his request, he appealed to the NCAA for a change in seating arrangements. Goens writes,“ Campbell called a friend with the NCAA. Within minutes and apparently without explanation, UNA was ordered to move its band and students to the press box side of the field.”
Just more proof of these uppity niggroes that can't get out of their own way.
