Mainstream Hollywood really wasn't fukking with Mara Brock Akil for most of the 2000s and 2010s. "Love Is__" (2018) is when that started changing but they pulled the plug on that real quick.

The industry gave Shonda Rhimes attention even though she came into the game way later but she catered to a predominantly white audience.

Mara's recent Netflix productions are what's getting her attention now. Even "Girlfriends" only got on streaming services in 2020.
