Alabama threw too many passes in the 2nd half resulting in quick 3 & outs. Everyone knew Alabama's defense's weakness was depth. The 1985 Bears couldn't defend Clemson for 99 plays. Run some game clock & some actual time to give the defense some rest. The run got you the lead & the back up looked good. Even call the qb run like Kiffin did against Washington. Other than that Clemson played well enough to win. The db's got to Malcolm Butler that pick play. Williams was just too big for them. Great game.

FSU wasn't an ACC school until 1992. So by being independent they had to play more of a national schedule at that time

Yep but even when in ACC they had years where the OOC was games vs Texas A&M in NY, USC, ND and of course Florida and Miami in years were they were usually top 5-10 matchups so FSU was always in spotlight even after the independent run. Clemson OOC opponents are non draws like South Carolina and an occasional regional game like Auburn or UGA
