Twitch Takes on YouTube With Video Uploads

Twitch is now allowing users to upload videos directly to Twitch via the Video Manager. Previously, the only videos allowed on a Twitch channel were archived streams, with more permanent copies being uploaded to YouTube.
"Twitch is already the best place online to find streamers and their communities, but we know that not everyone wants to dedicate themselves to the challenge of building a new streaming channel. With uploads, anyone with great videos can stand out on Twitch," wrote Twitch product marketing manager Noreen McInnis.
"When you upload a video, you don't have to be on your toes, live on-stream. Anyone can record and edit full game playthroughs, step-by-step tutorials, highlight reels, montages, or any other videos that now have a home on Twitch. If you do already stream, you can download your past broadcasts and highlights, and use them to create new videos that you can schedule and share with your viewers when you're offline - whether you're just between streams or taking a well-deserved vacation."
Uploaded videos are saved indefinitely and channel owners can see stats for all their uploaded videos. The idea seems to be aimed at consolidating streamers and stream viewers on Twitch, instead of sending them over to YouTube. I expect with Amazon footing the bill, the parent company isn't too keen with the idea of sending viewers to a competitor.
The video upload feature is currently in open beta, with Twitch committed to improving it over time.
