Brehs it's a DJ battle to see who can rock the crowd the most.

Remember back in the days - rappers would re-do vocals at the start of their songs to mention the DJ? In a SoundClash you get the MC to diss the other crew.

The sound clash goes back to the history of Reggae and Dancehall (a tradtion that has been going on in Jamaica and the UK, since Jamaica is a British colony, for years).

The idea behind it is tat two deejays or "selectors" would play different sets and "battle" each other...whoever would have the better sounds/music and get the crowd going more in their favor with more applause would technically win by the MC or the "toaster" of the clash.

The whole idea behind MC battles actually came from the soundclash loosely as well...as they would have dancehall MCs battle using the same concept.

Since Kool Herc (the innovator and creator of hip-hop) was from Jamaica, the earliest forms of hip-hop took many elements from Jamaican Dancehall (graffiti battles, b-boy/breakdancing battles, etc)...

I remember my big brother bringing this this VHS home:gladbron:

...what you know about dem Earth Ruler vs. Stone Love cassette dub tapes from Flatbush:blessed:
