Tinfoil time but doesn't anyone suspect this was a play from the jump to send all the traffic to a competitor by nuking the original platform.![]()
This isn't something I keep up with, nor pay anything but scant attention based on what I read here mainly but it all reeks of bread and circuses. From the numerological antics with the whole 444 timing (= $$$ which is exactly what it was as an overvalued asset) and the mishandling which makes people say "Ha ha! Musk is teh stoopid. Lolz!" when in reality he is playing with house money anyway as the government gave him all that cash. Add in the fight and you're straight into Idiocracy territory but people don't seem to draw the links.
Flip it:
If none of this happened people would never throw most of the nets traffic into the hands of federal agent Zuckerberg would they? And yet, now they have a story that makes them feel good, they frame it as a W when in reality they've been manipulated into a course of action via the good old Hegelian Dialect. Not a mention of this monopolization move par excellence anywhere.
One hand washes the other, both wash the face... You know whos money put all this into play back when, yes? As well as what a "Book of Faces" is originally?
Nobody spends 44 billion dollars to be a cog in someone else's game. Certainly not someone currently warring with the federal government on multiple fronts (SpaceX being grounded, taxes, Starlink in Ukraine, Tesla automated driving regulations, etc).
There's a simple explanation here. Elon took bad advice from some of the dumbest right wingers on the planet, who convinced him that owning Twitter could shift current ideological trends in the US ("wokeness") and give their desired candidates advantages in elections by ensuring as much misinformation as possible is pumped into the air. Turns out the problem happens to be that the people obsessed with "wokeness" are not a majority, and the vast majority of Twitter users just wanted to post online without dealing with Nazis. Given the flood of Nazi content on Twitter over the last few months (nonstop videos of black-on-white violence, nonstop anti-black content, nonstop antisemitic content, nonstop conspiracy brain nonsense, etc), it's only natural that a large group of Normal People were ready to take their talents elsewhere if given the opportunity. Threads is the first one (Bluesky is still invite only). I don't think it's shocking that people are moving over there, VS dealing with the weirdo shyt on Twitter. Not to mention the tech instability.
Threads wouldn't exist if not for Elon's missteps. If Elon had simply done what he said he'd do - get rid of some (not all) moderation, ensure neither political side is in control, remove bots, etc - we'd be saying damn Twitter is the best its been since 2011. Instead he did the opposite while constantly catering to white racists. And given that advertisers don't want their McDoanlds ad showing up right next to a cartel execution video, they now have an opportunity to move to a safer platform. Threads has major problems in my opinion but at least it won't be full of Nazi shyt. Or porn bots.
