Neither. Fruity Loops was popular because everybody had a crack version back in the late 90’s early 2000’s.

This is like arguing who popularized Cool Edit Pro 2.0 first?

Definitely not true.

The reason 9th name is brought up in the first place is solely because of Threat beat off the Black Album (2003). 3 years before we even knew who Soulja Boy was.

My whole High School knew 9th made that beat in FL Studio.

I thought about this some more and yea Soulja Boy is the wrong answer. Even if you weren't familiar with 9th Wonder another big FL producer that came out before Soulja Boy was Polow Da Don.

Soulja Boy even took the chorus from Throw Some D's for report card.

Also looking at the graph from the original tweet the interest peaks in 2011 or 2012 and that's probably because of Mike Will or Young Chop.

Edit: I forgot Lex Luger. Him Mike Will and to a lesser extent Young Chop are the peak in the graph.

FL has been popular since 2000. This was before people knew who either of them were. I'd say 9th Wonder popularized it because he's the first producer who kind of blew up using it. Not to mention, he really gained a name remixing God's Son and The Black Album. He was really setting trends in the early '00's with it.

Soulja Boy didn't really popularize it. He just might've been one of the first to create a #1 song using it, but by then many producers were using Fruity Loops.

And I think I used a bootleg of FL even before I heard of 9th but he's the first producer I know to use it
