I think that old photo that went around of Kanye Using it pre 2004 is what blew it up even more after 9th Wonder.

But FL blew up because it was a free demo version and the crack was always easy to find on the internet. I used Fruity Loops 3 from 2002-2007 when I upgraded to another crack. Those were the days.

Finally bought it during Covid once they went to Mac as well. Now that it’s on Mac too it’s completely worth the $99.

I know a cat who recorded vocals in FL.

It was mixed. The main people who hated was cats who was really loyal to analog. But there was def more people who were impressed he was even doing that with FL. I remember clearly cause I was producing and djing in that time frame as well.

Mixed but I'd argue it leaned more towards him being criticized. People forget, Little Brother did not get a lot of love in real time across the board in the "real rap" world. Part of that was them being from the south but it was also production, specifically 9th's beats. The FL snares were clowned by a lot of people. Whether it was Nas fans criticizing the God's Son remixes or NY fans complaining that he was getting compared to Pete Rock by some people. I was def shytting on 9th's drums until a few years ago when he started playing around with break beats.

A similar gear reductive take I've noticed recently is beat heads being mad about Madlib producing on his iPad. First everyone denied he did Bandana on it. Then when Madlib confirmed he wasn't trolling, certain people got aggy lol.

I honestly didn't know Soulja Boy used FL

And I think I used a bootleg of FL even before I heard of 9th but he's the first producer I know to use it

Thats interesting if you played around witH FL it becomes obvious. SB was a child of the ATL Soundclick era so he didnt make it popular but he was one of the biggest that blew up from it

But Crime Mobs first album they had to recreate some of the songs thst were fruity loops crack like Ellenwood Area and Knuck if you buck

Crime Mob before Soulja Boy. Now that I think about I don’t don’t think Soulja Boy is really responsible for blowing it up either. shyt was already hot in ATL with D4L, Dem Franchise Boyz and Crime Mob prior to Soulja Boy getting a hold of it.
