I was there and active when madden won that year. I played at least 2-3 games a day living in the dorms. That shyt was a good game. Tiger Woods could have won too.

What is GOTY anyway? For me it was always the one with the mayority of GOTY awards from different sources but it seems that for everyone else its simply the one that wins it at TGA even though no one watches that shyt for the awards.

I was in highschool that year, yeah the casuals were into NBA and GTA, some GT too but no one was called gay for playing Zelda or Castlevania
You was kinda gay for playing zelda tho. 
But around that time, when people was calling people gay it just meant soft or emotional. And most of the crowd who initially started off playing definitely seemed to be like that. But eventually the game was pretty much an undeniable banger and dudes had to fold on being gay for playing zelda.
I say this as someone who some dudes from a few streets over tried to check after seeing be playing it in Walmart on the demo units multiple times. Since you know, some folks can't stand to see you can't be enjoy yourself.
They shoulda listened to they partner that already been in a squabble with me over tearing up some comic cards a year or so back.

Madden 04 was legitimately the best game that year. Only SC2 and Vice City compared. That game had the streets on FIRE

these types of gamers understood fighting games, because they're competitive. they just weren't trying to play a game with a story. maybe GTA, but that was more about putting in that code to give yourself all the weapons, and engaging in fukkery
