You joke but much of modern black rap culture is disseminated in the US via Youtube et al. How many American kids were wearing shiesty masks before Pooh Shiesty? How many rap videos were prominently waving guns before drill rap?
One person makes something look cool and everyone does it.
Black culture isn't inherent to a country, it is a constant game of "follow the leader" across cities/tax brackets/countries.
It's frustrating seeing people pick and choose their battles:
"Africans can't use nikka because the word started in the US"
there's a purposeful separation there, but let a white person with cornrows and suddenly you're claiming the motherland again:
"White people can't wear cornrows, that is disrespecting my ancestors"
didn't Ice-T have music videos with dudes waving guns and wasn't that how gangsta music videos were shot before they started getting censored?
drill music gun imagery thrived because of youtube , worldstar etc and independent artists not needing a white execs final say on creative matters.
