I think it's because they are not at peace. Deep down they are looking for approval and acceptance from people because maybe they don't themselves accept who they are. And it might not even be about being trans. Maybe they don't accept stuff from their personal life on a deeper level. Also, imagine a big part of your public identity being the fact you are trans. And then someone who's company you might enjoy, someone you felt was pretty cool with you in private, denies even knowing you in public. You might feel like hitting them where it hurts. Not saying it's cool or the right thing but i can empathize. I think it's part of the human condition. Same way a married man will get exposed by his side girl. The sidegirl is destroying her reputation by exposing dude but she hurts so much she thinks fukk it, if I'm unhappy, everyone will be unhappy. Miserable state of mind...
