They menaced NYC for a period. As another poster previously alluded, they were called that because they would spray or "shower" nikkas with a hail of gunfire.
My aunt is from the Bronx, used to date a heavy hitter with their crew. I stayed with her every Summer for a decade growing up, and she would always warn me to stay the hell away from that nikka.
