Not saying that other causes separate from poverty/hunger charities are unimportant. But celebrities really go out of the US to give charity to impoverished countries, social media makes the als challenge a popular cause, and people by the millions in the U.S alone treat fur wearing as a sin. Why then do people turn a blind eye to the poor in their own country?
Why do people act like the ghetto doesn't exist and rather give their hard earned money to charities overseas?
Recently i donated clothes to a shelter and my family helps with foster homes for displaced children, why is it so easy to make fun of the ghetto, do pranks "in the hood", laugh at people in lower income neighborhoods but do nothing to improve their standard of living?

At the end of the day people can choose who they want to help. Some people don't have much resepect for their own local community, and choose to help other communities that they aren't a part of. I think helping people out is a good thing, however the more you help make your own community better then you will benefit in the long run, and the community could also help many other communities when their own community becomes strong and continues to be strong. It's hard to help others when you don't have your own stuff put together. That's just how I see it.

its crazy because the more i think about it, its like these people are condescending when they help poor countries, they would help them enough to eat for the day but not strengthen their economy enough to be self sufficient.

I fully understand culture of poverty and institutionalized racism...but to an extent...I can see why rich people dont help out the poor in our own country. Anybody in the US can make something of themselves. Might not be rich, but you can be comfortable. My mom does some charity work for a village in Mexico where girls arent allowed to go to school past the 5th grade. Some shyt in the world is on a completely different level when it comes to need.

Plenty of people do help out here. There's only so much you can do, though. You have mentally ill and people that don't want anything more out of life. In a country where you can dress up like hello kitty for tips and end up owning your own successful business and have something to give your kids, why should we give a fukk? If you aren't mentally ill, take a goddamn shower and make something of yourself. This is overly simplistic but you catch my drift. In the USA you gotta learn to help yourself or get left behind.
