They aren't going to do anything. They have far too many goals and there are far too many impoverished places on Earth, each of them requiring different plans.
The UN messes up education which is the easiest to solve. In Africa and Haiti, instead of children being taught in their native language, they are taught in languages that they do not speak. In addition, English, French, and Portuguese are the most difficult to spell, resulting in kids who go to school but can't read and write.
If the UN would just provide learning materials in a child's native language, the child will be able to read and write in about 6 months. After that they can learn their country's European language.

Yes, I wouldn't mind living in a world where I was guaranteed the best health care, best education, and I could travel to any country using one currency and not having to worry about immigration and stupid things like that.
