cabs didnt cover as well. uber = cab stand everywhere
I know. Cabs suck. Now imagine instead of butchering the industry through new aged MLM marketing that Uber was actually just a tech company that improved cab service and coverage.
crazy right.

cab service isn't some altruistic industry either - from exploration of drivers via the cost of medallions, to racism in the people they choose not to pick up. furthermore, most places don't have a robust cab industry. i've never in my life hailed a cab in oakland - an actual city, they aint just driving up and down the street like they do in NYC, and i could only imagine the inability to get one in small town USA or the suburbs. uber definitely met a market need.
uber is a marketplace that matches drivers to riders, Uber already let CA drivers set their rates as a way to give them more autonomy (ie act as a real contractor), they're no different than thumbtack that connects repair people with homeowners, airbnb that connects hosts and guests, upwork that connects workers with companies. it's silly to demand their (along with lyft, doordash, etc) drivers be employees when none of these other marketplace platforms are being asked to do the same
MLM?I know. Cabs suck. Now imagine instead of butchering the industry through new aged MLM marketing that Uber was actually just a tech company that improved cab service and coverage.

how is uber MLM? what industry did thumbtack, doordash, or upwork destroyAll of those companies are exploiting workers, destroying businesses that were more sustainable and paid a fairer share taxes, using PE money to do it, and will pull the rug out from under their employees once they’ve fully destroyed the comp and have a suitable cheaper alternative to employing humans.
There’s no there there.
guess we need to go back to the yellow pages and classifieds or hoping every restaurant has their own delivery driverMLM?how is uber MLM?
and uber did improve single car travel service and coverage by introducing car owners who want to make extra dough to riders who need a lift

you just throwing out random anti biz talking points at this point
Without a solution or replacement for the lost wages, we are just reducing options and making things worse for people. The reality of economic conditions needs to be confronted eventually.
We will not gig work or temp work out way out of this.
Why should we pretend it’s not already an issue while propping up shareholder value for PE?
Without a solution or replacement for the lost wages, we are just reducing options and making things worse for people.

are you fukking kidding me?
if they kill uber and lyft in mass the backlash is gonna be enormousSo the answer is investing in public transportationtaxi wasn't ever a thing out here, maybe SF, but LA and the rest of the Bay never had big taxi usage like the east coast or chicago. Uber definitely helped bridge the gap of our shytty public trans that closes at midnight, stations are far apart and don't cover the south or east bay. if/when bars open back up and there's no uber/lyft, DUI's bout to be poppin
Well duh, but that hasn’t happened and takes the state a decade(s) to move on. They were talking about expanding BART to San Jose way back in 1998, they just opened phase one of the expansion this year...this is the pace of improvement and innovation we’re supposed to depend on? Nah...So the answer is investing in public transportation
public transportation doesnt pull up to your house. for the most part you still have to even get TO public transportationSo the answer is investing in public transportation
no one wins; not the drivers, not the riders, not society. just some misguided, piece of shyt AG sitting in a million dollar office patting themselves on the backI know. DC area is moving slow on metro too. I’m saying this is how you kill the need for ride shares at a mass scale.Well duh, but that hasn’t happened and takes the state a decade(s) to move on.
