They aren't being punished. They have a say in their non conference schedule. Boise State is not from a major conference but if they were to go undefeated they'd have a way better shot at making the playoff. Teams from lesser conferences gotta over time improve their schedules and win out. Goin undefeated against weak comp isn't that inpressive

these schedules were made 10 years ago. no big team will schedule them now. after what Boise did to UGA in 2011, P5 teams are careful scheduling strong G5 teams
