California is a good football and basketball state and is different from Texas/Florida in that it has Los Angeles going for it.

Los Angeles is a key trend-setter city for apparel/footwear. All of the instagram/viners that reach the younger demos that are most key for these companies are out there. You could argue that Under Armour does well as a performance brand but not yet as a casual/fashion brand like Nike does. It can be tough to round that style corner without getting in with the right "crowd".

USC already has Nike. UCLA has a decent enough presence in both football & basketball.

It's really process of elimination.

but it's still a lot of money. they aren't even a brand like that in college anymore to get that money, they're still overshadowed by USC. They overpaid. When you're giving that type of money away you want that big national prominence and UCLA aint there. I'd like to see what addidas offered them to make UA step up to give the biggest deal in all of college sports

It'll be great to see that filtered through back to the student athletes...oh...nvm.

In football it's a great move. But on the basketball side not sure. Adidas has been sending a lot of kids to UCLA over the years. Luckily UA is on the rise so I doubt it affects them that much.

UcLA seems like a weird school to give that deal to tho.

They need a school on the west coast. At one time they were trying to get Oregon State because of it's close proximity to Nike and to UofO. Not that Oregon State could demand $280 Million, but they need their brand being worn on one of the major west coast teams. No offense to Utah, but they needed someone bigger. Yeah, UCLA Football/Basketball are somewhat down right now, but as a sporting school UCLA is still a major player. As of May 18, 2016 the Men's teams is ranked 12th and the Women's teams 16th in the Capital One Cup.

they understand their place is in performance gear
they will never compete with nike/adidas from a pure style/aesthetic stand point
try and lock down the on field/on court shyt

This

People who could give two shyts about UCLA athletics will cop the gear. It's just like how the Yankees logo has (in a way) transcended the team/legacy and is a fashion statement.

On a side note tho, NIKE is out of their damn minds for not snapping up all these "brand name" schools like UCLA, regardless of the fact that they have USC. you got like 15-20 schools that hold that brand "value" even when they are having shytty sports years. UA and adidas grabbing a marquee name is sort of a coup but with Nike's market share I guess they could care less about the smaller companies making a few movies. Or maybe UA just came with the right numbers in this case

1st. What the fukk is the capital one cup?
2nd. I understand they want a wet coast school but UCLA isn't worth that much. They overpaid. UCLA ain't worth that much. They could have gotten them for cheaper cause I'm sure Addias wasn't coughing up that much. UCLA is a top 25-30 earner. Not a top 5.

But UCLA is top notch when their basketball is going great........If the football could ever get over the hump and win the conference it would pay off for Under Armour then too......Some article, it might have been this one, mentioned other sports like softball, etc. bringing in a lot of championships......

Anyway....they are getting $10 million more a year than Auburn from Under Armour:damn:

but Auburn got $10 million in stock a few years ago:youngsabo:
