Jones doesn't want to fight Aspinall it seems. Interim champs are created when one champ is injured for an extended period or the UFC needs a belt to help sell a ppv.

Probably cause of the layoff and the fact he's only fought two of the same guys across five fights. Very similar to Velasquez back in the day now that I think on it.

This fight was already booked when Jon got hurt, and Jon and Stipe both wanted to fight each other. Since they’re both legends at the end of their careers the UFC agreed to let the fight happen. Aspinall is next in line to fight the winner.
