What I will say though is that a 3rd fight with Silva right now is bullshyt. The UFC is just money hungry and willing to overlook contenders that are deserving at the moment, like Jacare. However, that potential match-up has nothing to do with Weidman being white or being the 'great white hope'. It's about money and nothing is bigger or can generate more profit than Silva fighting again for a title.
If Silva looks dominant against Diaz, then why not give him a 3rd shot? He's never lost convincingly to half the UFC fanbase, so they would shell out the bucks for a final match and a final conclusion.
On the flipside
If Silva looks washed up against Diaz or loses, then he wont get that 3rd shot against Weidman and I believe they will have Weidman face the winner of Jacare/Romero or Rockhold next....especially if the winner of Jacare/Romero look dominant in victory.
machida is clearly better than coleman but coleman nearly beat shogun (lyoto was never even close) because of stylistically he had a tool that shogun was susceptible to

we are splitting heirs here and veering somewhat, what you have written here anchors the argument I have been making on why rockhold and em (who pose stylistic problems) are being stifled for named fighters
...Things fall through and you got to go with option B you think if tj grant returned hed get an instant shot against pettis?
