The gay rights movement in this country is roughly 50 years old, and resulted in legislation which gives recognition to marriages/civil unions of same sex partners.
Even though it took decades HERE, American + Euro gay rights groups are using their resources to fast forward these types of laws in developing countries. Which is where "western countries imposing their way of life" quote comes from.
