The spread system enables success for college teams. College coaches get fired and hired based on team wins, not whether their QBs develop into NFL level passers. As such, since the spread system is more flexible and fits a wider range of QBs, college coaches' incentive is to it. The spread system simplifies and reduces the demand on QBs. The spread QB doesn't have to master drop back foot work so he is less likely to make a mistake. With all the receiver options the spread affords, a QB doesn't have to use the same level of eye discipline to manipulate defenders. The reads are easier. This is the benefit of a spread system and why collee coaches prefer it.
