Collecting honey and money
Knife crime has been an issue since I was a kid. My area was known as Shanktown back in the day…the kids are out here doing a madness but there’s been a more collective effort to do outreach with these kids.
The majority of the violence stems from poverty (which has risen since the pandemic) and the older guys in the area recruiting kids, putting them on to some money and making them ”earn their stripes”. My girl is a school principal and her school has regular talks with the police and community leaders to figure ways to combat the rise in crime.
You can go even go further, way back in the 20th century, and find out that london has had a long history of gangs and organizations. Even before the krays were established, but what really change the game was the introduction of drugs. Drugs and the influence of gangster rap which has created a subculture and as a result you get the tit for tat violence.Youngers have something to prove. But the irony is that the mandem are not even shipping the drugs or the straps.
