Where's the fake outrage for these places "woadies" ? :mjpls:

LA
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/18/u...d-tries-to-change-but-avoid-the-pitfalls.html

Mr. Uribe and others see change as inevitable — and say that if they do not take advantage of the opportunities, somebody else will. For years, he wanted to open a bar that would appeal to people like him: native Angelenos and the children of Mexican immigrants who listened to performers like Morrissey as well as mariachis. Unable to find a place he could afford downtown, he jumped at the small spot in Boyle Heights. Now, hundreds pack the bar for karaoke nights that also feature songs from David Bowie, Juan Gabriel and Selena.

“If we want to preserve the cultural integrity, the pride we have, the only shot we have is to do it ourselves,” he said. “My grandmother here covered everything in plastic because there wasn’t extra money to go buy another couch if one of us messed it up. That’s something we should celebrate now. I want to be amongst people who understand that and get it.”

DMV
http://www.nbcwashington.com/blogs/...-Debate-Gentrifications-Impact-202040971.html

The D.C. Council now is 7-to-6 majority white and in the next election could become 8-to-5 white. Only two of the six candidates are African-American, including Anita Bonds, who was appointed temporarily to the seat. She said African-Americans make up 50 percent of the city and should hold on to their representation on the council.

Detroit

A slightly higher-end grocery store is only the start of a whole yuppie renaissance for the Motor City, but what that future really holds is anyone's guess. I hung around the parking lot and asked some of the patrons what they want next for the city (besides another Whole Foods).

Oh Gawwwwd (big sean voice) :bryan:

yeah back home i lived pretty much right on a borderline between the hood and capitol hill and i slowly watched us and the independent businesses get phased out in favor of condos and such

now i go back and shyt is just completely different

but the difference is as a DC native i can say we're not even in the conversation as far as Hip-Hop so there's no reason to bring that up

Gentrification is not exclusive to any city or region, it was an eventuality of capitalism...if it's not apparent in your city it will be shortly trust

This is going on fullspeed in all metro areas in america...even throughout the south ppl are getting displaced and relocated where we are allegedly doing so good

Exactly. I remember hearing they were EVEN trying to gentrifiy ATL metro. So I dont know why these cats are acting like this is some phenomena exclusive to New York.

Most ATL rappers are not even from the CITY. They are from the suburbs and surrounding areas. Most posters here who rep ATL live in the surrounding areas as well.

Everything woadie

Gentrification seems to be the new sensation of what is "killing hip hop" in The booth. Even doe, hip hop wise all these area's still producing gutta hip hop. Point im making is, all this "NY hip hop is dead cuz of gentrification" is bullshyt.

youre on to something.

you dont notice the CACification of a message board because people can "hide" and pretend to be something else. Its not like driving into the area you grew up in and blatantly seeing new development and people being pushed out to Oblivion Land.

For LA, this is probably the worst example to use in the " It's not just happening in NYC, it's happening here too!" defense.

1. Boyle Heights, isn't being overran with white people.... it's being transformed by natives and Mexicans who want all the amenities of gentrified areas, without erasing the culture and history of the neighborhood...

2. Boyle Heights being gentrified, does little to nothing to displace any type of history that neighborhood has in regards to hip hop.... it's very different from Harlem being turned into "North Manhattan"

can you even name some rappers from Boyle Heights breh?

I'm not sure I get the angle here...isn't gentrification supposed to be an EXCUSE/LEGITIMATE REASON for why NYC rap ain't popping...if it's happening everywhere, like in LA that's currently experiencing a resurgence in hip hop, why can't NYC? And how is that something that's on "bammas" :dwillhuh:

Chicago ranks 7th in gentrification analysis

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/arti...chicago-ranks-7th-in-gentrification-analysis#

“Clearly Chicago has carved out a role as one of the most attractive places in America for the kinds of people who have moved into these neighborhoods,” he said. “Barring some major collapse in public services, such as serious violent crime starting to penetrate in a higher level into some of these gentrified neighborhoods, I don't see any reason why the gentrification would stop.”

Where the fukk are all ya Coli Civil Rights/Real Estate/Black Power activists? :lolbron:

Dont hide :lolbron: , ya lust for hatred of New York got ya oblivious to what is going on across the damn country.
