Mayate is Mexican/El Salvadoran slang for ******. They don't use ****** because it sounds too similar to negro which means black. They feel the name isn't offensive enough to adopt. I believe they have a point if the origins of the word is not European/Latindoes that say?
So it's officially viewed as a derogatory slur towards dark skinned people...
