Underground TV series - WGN/About Underground Railroad (Produced by John Legend/Official Thread)

For those that don't know, I make film. It's coincidental that Underground and POND (my project) are both bold takes on slavery where the characters are empowered and explore new ideas. I'm such a fan of Underground and I think they're the boldest shyt out.

Man this shyt was extremely frustrating to watch

Y'all talking bout this isn't your typical slave show but really it is

Yeah nikkas fought back a little and whites took a couple small Ls but nikkas were taking Ls all damn season long

What pissed me off the most was at the end of the season no real nikkas were free...not one

They all died except the main character

The only ones free are a little girl,the privileged slave masters daughter,and the house nikka who whipped more nikkas than the white people

And don't get me started on the white savior couple

Of course the show had to have them in it,cant make all the white people look bad(tv has no problem doing that to nikkas tho)

And of course Stabler gonna turn into a white savior in season 2 and help the main character escape

Don't get me wrong its a quality show but don't listen to these dudes in this thread talking about how this show is different,nikkas fighting back,etc cause it's really not

Its definitely NOT Black excellence

Black people have to let the embarrassment of slavery go. It is what it is .

Its an empowering black show but black people have to know that these shows get made with the help of white people too
It would be impossible to do a show like this on a network like WGN without doing some sort of white savior characters

I don't really like any of the white characters on the show though so that's definitely a problem

I agree with you on the Ls point. The main cast took a bunch. But the fact that oI girl and Hardison survived after making it to the end, as well as queen freedom train showing up at the end means they'll be better prepared for the next run. For a bunch of slaves making their first freedom run, and off hunches alone speaks volumes.

Long as it's a good amount of ass whooping in it then I will watch it.

I'm sold brehs. I slept on it at first for the reason of not wanting to see another slave themed movie or series but my girl kept pressuring me to watch. Finishing up the first season today and will be tuning in for the 2nd.

It's crazy how people slept on this. Deliberately. I dunno how you watch the trailer for Underground at any point and think: "oh yeah, typical slavery " People are gonna realize this show is groundbreaking years later. I just hope they can keep up the quality.
