The slavery thing, although cheesy, was completely intentional, both by Kevin Bacon staring at him, and the director showing his face. The villain is trying to make a point, trying to "reach out" to the black guy with that comment.

Y'all know how these old white folks operate....trying to connect with some "I used to go to the poorer neighborhoods and play hoops" type shyt....same thing pretty much.

The writers damn well know what they're doing by killing the black guy off in horror movies first, or portraying said black dude in a stereotypical manner.
