Lets be honest.

The shyt is fukking amazing when you think about it.

Europe doesn't have large standing armies because of us and this gives us unfettered access to their resources and capital. Shipping lanes are secured by US military might. International conflicts are resolved with US influence.

Yeah, being a dikk to people sucks, but with great power comes great responsibility.

You're right. Enjoy it while you're on top. But we all know what goes up eventually comes down.

There is currently no nation in the world that can beat the U.S. one on one. Just like there was no nation that could beat germany 1-on-1 back in 1917 and 1939. But we all saw how that ended. You make enough enemies and they all jump you all at once and you are doomed. Hitler's biggest mistake was going after Russia despite his advisors begging him not to. I think sometimes the U.S. gets greedy.

Key to prolonging the dominance is to not get tangled up in too many conflicts at a time. When you spread yourself too thin you make yourself more and more vulnerable. These fools cheering for us to go to war against Russian over Crimea are stupid.

great that we have a strong military but the amount we spend on it is too excessive by a long shot. if they cut the budget by a small bit and that money was spent on science, education, and health the US would be far more better off.

I respect the service and sacrifice that people have given.
I don't think this thread is out of line, given that...well, it IS Memorial Day weekend.

But I do have major problems with the military industrial complex.
It's a discussion for another day, though.

If any of you coli members are in the service, or have family members currently overseas, I hope they are safe and well.
The mental and emotional toll that soldiers can go through is brutal.

In the Military you sign a CONTRACT of which you have options to take a 2, 4 or 6 year contract. In prison you don't have an option of your sentence duration. You don't get to "travel and see the world". You don't get no GI bill to pay for your college. The Warden doesn't owe you disability for injuries sustained while incarcerated. You don't get government support to purchase homes with $0 down in forms of VA benefits. You don't extra money in terms of "danger pay" when put in danger. You don't get signing bonus to extend your jail sentence after your sentence is up.
