It definitely is. Look at what happened in the 2016 election with Cambridge Analytica. The company in this video has influenced 33 campaigns and elections all over the world.

And that's just private companies. National governments are engaged in similar disinformation tactics on all platforms. With sophisticated AI bots you don't even need troll farms anymore.
