Dan Gilbert's fault for firing his better GM for a rookie GM. Dude wanted a short star so bad that he trade for Thomas. Its well know dude has a short guy fetish or some shyt.

What was he supposed to do, call back and say "you know what, I'm really raping your organization with this deal, let me correct it and make it fair, take back the pick you gave me" ?!

Takes 2 sides to say yes
I think it's pretty clear the player meant the shyt as a compliment.

Whats funny is that Ainge was a horrible GM until McHale decided to drunk-trade him KG. Since then, homie has become a god-tier finesser. :lolbron:

:salute:to the god, the Nets trade and Kyrie trade are in the top-5 "What the fukk is this GM doing?" trades of this decade and he was on the winning side of both. :blessed:

Ainge knew about Fultz the whole time lol. Hell.. It only took me 3 mins of film- to see Fultz would be a nba bust. Alot of these Gms & Scouts just don't have the perceptive powers.. So they play themselves- over & over

Explain what you saw from the 3 minutes of film then. There was nothing I saw in any of his games at Washington that were red flags. We knew he needed to continue working on his shooting mechanics, give more effort on D and work on limiting dumb turnovers and some bad shot selection. That is about it.

I don't get why people are so ready to count him out.

Great gm but also has great ownership that is patient and allowed him to tear it down and keep collecting future assets.

On other teams he might not have been able to do that. But a patient owner and winning a title gives you some job equity to be able to make moves that won’t help you till years down the line.

Still don’t know what King was thinking. I know it was the owner but at the very least if King asked for top 3 or 5 protection Ainge probably still does the deal.

Nah he was ok, just didnt do anything noteworthy..he collected assests that he could make that trade with....same thing he did with Kyrie, holding onto guys instead of shipping them out immediately to satisfy the fan base. Al and Green were big components of that trade with Minny, not to mention he also used assests to get Ray, who was the only reason that trade with Minny went through. He alsowon the IT trade, twice lol...only time he took an L i can think of is the Perkins deal, cause we needed him in the playoffs that year.

We’re looking at this trade through the lens of rn though. Gilbert wanted something to build off of post Lebron. Gilbert hates bron, hates that he’s one of the only players that has leverage on an owner like that. He got his title, he knew that there wasn’t anything out there he could get for Kyrie that would let Cleveland Be competitive with GS. Trade was about the nets pick. IT was a plus in that he was gonna be a guy that he could pay to stay if he wanted.

Trade backfired a bit on him too of course. Nets pick isn’t the asset we thought it would be. And IT gave them nothing. And they might not be able to get back to the finals like I’m sure he thought they’d be able to. But the Cavs have consistently hedged their bets since last season. IT and the nets pick over getting PG, the young players they went after at the deadline over Deandre Jordan.
Nah, the PG deal fell through because Dan Gilbert made it clear that the price of trading Kyrie away to get PG and Bledsoe was for Lebron to sign a contract extension.

Lebron liked the deal, but refused to sign the extension. He wanted to maintain his leverage.
Gilbert wasn't about to potentially be left with no star players and no assets after this season (well, he'd have 1 more year of Bledsoe...:mjlol:)

Once Kyrie got wind that Lebron had no issues trading him away (and found out that Lebron had tried to have him traded in '16 for Chris Paul), all hell broke loose, and he publicly demanded a trade.
Ainge, finesser that he is, saw an opportunity to pay far less than fair value for a star player, and swooped in :pachaha:
