he doesnt have competition in this era. i would say he'd get eaten alive in the golden age, but thats sorta what shaped him as an artist in the first place, no?
its not really kendricks fault, its whoevers fault (record execs) that promoted so much ignorance that kendricks stuff became an outlier. lets be honest, a lot of popular rap has lyrics that are basically shopping lists of luxury brands. whereas kendrick sort of reminds me of the old Project Blowed rappers. instead of inspiring rappers like him, he just seems to be one of the few doing it. in some ways its the publics fault for consuming ignorant stuff, but other artists dont seem to be as willing to stand up like he has.
there are plenty of underground artists making stuff just as good or better than kendricks work, we just dont hear about them. maybe its that dr dre co-sign, i dont know
i could be completely wrong, this is just my interpretation
would you mind sharing your anti-kendrick blog post? especially if its from 2009. i would like to read your criticism. i like pre-GKMC kendrick but his early stuff had a few missteps. mostly the corny white dudes doing hooks on section.80
but ignoring that i liked it.
