University of Alabama's Chi Omega chapter booted the sorority sister who excitedly Snapchatted her friends that "Chi O got "NO nikkas!!!!!" on Bid Day this weekend. This was the first Alabama rush where black women were formally invited to join sororities. Chi O actually pledged two black women (and about 200 white girls).

The offending Snapchat—a selfie that also featured a yellow heart emoji, a red heart emoji, the "no good" girl emoji, and the "OMG girl" emoji—was sent on Bid Day this past Saturday, according to Alabama officials. Bid Day, for those (literally) uninitiated, is when sororities formally hand out invitations to join them after the rush period. Everyone wears matching t-shirts and runs around screaming for hours. (In the Snapchat you can see at least one girl was enjoying a morning mimosa.)

Twenty-one black women were invited to join in the festivities this year. 2,054 women pledged sororities in total.

The university is still investigating the Snapchat incident, so the girl who sent it probably isn't in trouble with the school yet, but she was kicked out of Chi O. In an email to students, Alabama President Judy Bonner wrote,"We are all extremely disappointed when any student uses language that is disrespectful or offensive to any segment of the UA community. We are especially sad that this incident occurred on a day that was an exciting and happy one for the young women who participated in fall recruitment."

Before Bonner sent that email, Chi O stans speculated on Total Sorority Move that the photo had been doctored or was the unfortunate result of an autocorrect error. (Apparently, Alabama sorority girls' phones are autocorrecting "ninjas" to "nikkas" all the time.) But nah, some girl really sent that Snapchat to all her friends.

When it was first revealed last year that Alabama sororities were systematically blocking black women from joining them, undergrads blamed their alumnae, claiming that this older, racist cohort instructed them to do so. This incident obviously undermines that claim.

I don't think so....I think it's just those black women and men who have a lot of white "friends" and want to try to get in with their society. I don't and did not go to that school though, so I don't know exactly what is going on with that situation. All I know is I grew up 60 miles away from that University and I know how white people can and do act in that area. It's not as bad as it once was, but like someone else said in the thread it is not unlikely that many whites attending college there think they are somehow above others. They'll smile in your face and get along when it's comfortable for them, but put them around people they want to impress and they'll act totally different.

Difference is that Alabama is 25% black, Atlanta is 55% black (about the same population)
There's a large ass middle class filled with black people in Atlanta or even better if you go to places like Augusta. The only thing missing in Atlanta is more white hoods, even it out a bit.

And wait what?? Are you fukking comparing Alabama and Mississippi to Atlanta and Miami . I heard that black and white people couldn't get married until 1989 in Mississippi . I read Mississippi is in the bottom of just about every important statistic

No one can ever beat Mississippi in "Worst Health Care" because they're the best at "Worst Health Care". The only way they could be less awful would be if we burned down every health care facility in any one of the other 49 states.

But that's not all they have to brag about! Lowest ACT scores? Check! Poorest state in the country? Check! Bottom of the American Human Development Index? Check! 21.8% of its residents living below the poverty line? Check! Laws to ban gay marriage and prohibit the state from recognizing gay marriages performed in other states? Check! A constitution that mandates "No person who denies the existence of a Supreme Being shall hold any office in this state"? Check!

And Alabama didn't officially remove their interrelation ban until 2000 even though you it was "unenforceable" . Nearly 60% of Mississippi republicans said either "not sure" or "illegal" regarding if interracial marriage should be illegal or legal

Go to Europe and people are taught there's places that are socially like third world countries in the US.

all right breh, I think what he's going at is there's areas of Alabama that are good and bad just like in those cities you talk about. I've visited and lived in many places besides living here in Alabama. Yeah there are places with more variety in things "to do"....but with the people you'll find good and bad just like any other place. You just have to go in it with a good attitude just like you would anywhere else. Living in Orlando for me wasn't much different than living here in Huntsville, except for the fact it was a larger city with more variety. It's what you make of it. Yes there's racism to a point, but as you can see on the news you can't escape that anywhere you go. I haven't heard many stories lately of black boys or men being shot down in Alabama lately by the cops, but that's not to say it can't happen. Of course it can, but the point is you have to use your brain when you live anywhere in this earth.
