BREAKING: TikTok US Deal Finalized
Oracle, Silver Lake and Andreessen Horowitz will control TikTok’s US operations under a new 80/20 framework with ByteDance.
The impossible just happened:
• 80% US-owned (Oracle + Silver Lake + A16z + legacy investors)
• 20% Chinese-owned (ByteDance keeps a slice)
• American board with US government oversight
• New US-only app with separate algorithm from global TikTok
The Bottom Line:
This isn’t just a sale, it’s a complete rebuild. US users will download a new app that looks identical to current TikTok but runs entirely on American infrastructure with US-controlled algorithms. ByteDance licenses their technology but loses operational control. The result: TikTok survives, creators keep audiences, Washington gets data control.

My question is, what happens to businesses outside of the US who are specifically targeting people in the US on TikTok? Is it now even more impossible to try and grow a US-based audience from outside of the US? I live in Australia, and our main market is in America. So does that mean I'm not allowed to access the US audience anymore on TikTok?

@OneGreatGambino
Ya, unfortunately the this App is for Americans by Americans now. Maybe market to France?

@TTRAmyloid
Pay 50% tariff then you can access

@GideonShalwick
LOL good one.
6/24
@DWorc
probably not, and USA creators will see their income plummet
7/24
@GideonShalwick
Yeah, one thing I didn't even consider is how American TikTok users will be affected. Will the audience be exclusively only US, or will they still have access to the whole world as well?
8/24
@JuanIsidro
They can download the US TikTok lol
9/24
@GideonShalwick
Can they? I guess you'd need a VPN or something like that, right? Social media is getting a little bit ridiculous here in Australia lately.

@ConservaTex

@LindaContent
The main aim of this is to keep the data in Washington. Anyone who has Dollars will definitely be able to run ads irrespective of location
16/24
@TanLiway
You can access all American social media. I don’t think it will be any different for American TilTok.

@wu89_j
So, US government doesn't take 15% cut on the profit.

@MaoNFL
@grok que nos puedes decir? Es cierto esta toma? Que pasará con lo que pregunta @GideonShalwick?
19/24
@wu89_j
They can properly selectively block oversea posts inside the US through the US monitoring system, or oversea posts are completely separated you won't even see them.
20/24
@GideonShalwick
Yeah, it's still a bit unclear as to how they'll actually implement the whole thing. Like, if you use the American version of TikTok, does that mean no one else in the world will be able to see your content, and vice versa?
21/24
@jooniie3
Soon America will become what it always accused China of being unfortunately.

@Alekillo10
If you solely depend on tiktok for marketing… You need to hire a better marketer.

@GideonShalwick
Agreed. TikTok is just one of many marketing channels. That’s why I like using
