i still dont get how none of this was apparent in a 3 year relationship and/or how it started once married? first, not showering as a defense mechanism seems like something she'd be doing all her life, including while they were dating...but he said she smelled fine/looked clean during this time. so she felt no need to "defend" herself during her dating years?

She was probably doing the bare minimum and giving herself a wash up in the sink or some shyt at her house beforehand when they were dating and slipped back into old habits. But for all I know, the nikka was just so happy to be pawging he was "noseblind". Early in the OP he even said "she doesn't quite smell..." Yet as time went on he comes out and admits she fukking stinks.

I said a couple days ago the first red flag should've been when she didn't shower after sex because I'm sure a few times they had sleepovers and did a couple rounds over the course of a night and she was probably funky af then, but he ignored it. Dude was just in denial.

I mean, it's the internet so he could be full of shyt, but thinking about it, I could see this being true. Not surprised at her being molested either, I called that shyt on day 1. This is classic behavior.

She was probably raped or molested. A lot of people who were molested as children developed poor hygiene as a coping mechanism and/or because they hoped by being dirty or smelly, whoever was abusing them would be put off by the smell and leave them alone (which sometimes worked). That or bath times are when they were molested in the past. It carries over into adulthood in some cases where they pretty much develop a phobia of showering/bathing.

Basically it's a defense mechanism.
