My guess is smack and Beasley make a good living off battle rap sh1t. Add in appearancd fees and just general hustles and both of them probably clear $100k in annual income.

The business itself probably makes next to nothing after they pay themselves. The big payouts for battlers mostly come from sponsors I think.

I bet they have almost no free cash on the books. They "break even" every event. But again, that's after pocketing a nice chunk of change

Just my assumption from what I've seen and gathered

that's pretty much what it is

what I don't get is why URL doesn't tour more often...I'm sure they can sellout venues across the east coast/midwest and charge pretty high prices in cheaper areas like Detroit/St Louis/Atlanta, etc.

True but Beasley seems like he's way up on the logistics so I assume he thought about that and it just doesn't compute right now.

They break even AFTER they pay themselves? If they paid themselves less they would have free cash. My point is that even according to what you said, and I agree with most, the business is profitable. How profitable? Who knows , but i've always wondered.

it's worth it to them for it to be a full-time business, so I would say it's definitely profitable.

This is a complete guess at this point, but I think their plan is to build URL's brand into a mainstream brand, and then sell it off to the highest network. That would be my plan, at least. Then I would start another "URL" like league, and build that up and repeat the process.

I don't think they want any cash on the books.

Lets be real, Smack doesn't do this for the culture. He does it to line his pockets. Nothing wrong with that, I just think at the end of the day most if not all of the profit generated by the business goes to the owners pockets

See, I really don't like when nikkas say shyt like this. Seriously...it's a crab-barrel haters opinion that forces me to respond.

Smack has been busting his ass to make battles mainstream for over a damn decade, when it was nowhere close to being profitable. All of the battles that you see pre-2008 were free battles...you could just show up to watch. When I went to see Hitman vs. Ars live (which was relatively recent) I think I paid 15 or 20 bux. That's when Smack and Beasley were the hosts, the DJs, the security, the soundmen, and the door collectors. They did EVERYTHING possible to throw a half-decent event. I'm sure that throughout his career, Smack thought about hanging this rap battle promoter shyt up, because it was economically non-viable. He was putting out free battles on low-budget DVDs out the back of his car.

To me, he only did it because of the culture.
