Yeah, they came up with some Medicaid work requirements and then tried to exempt mostly white counties. Though they dropped it eventually when people started calling it out.
Michigan scrapped its racist Medicaid work exemption. But it’s still happening elsewhere.

The vast majority of people receiving food stamps and Medicaid are white and rural and probably vote republican. It’s wild. I work at an org that helps people obtain public benefits and I’ve had multiple white/rural/republican clients tell me “if I was an immigrant I would get more benefits” or “they’re discriminating against me for being white and needing help” or my favorite “this is obama’s fault.”
