I had a lab and one of my professors came in and told me and another classmate who he knew that played.

I had 3 days of no classes coming up and I was looking forward to ODing on tournaments and rush poker games

Because he has insider knowledge on the usage rates of players. For bigger contests, this information is critical and provides an advantage because you want guy that'll score a lot of points but aren't being used in many unique lineups.

The investigation is because some dumbasses that worked for Draft Kings and FanDuel were making plays on insider information and got caught.

Back when they were cracking down on internet Gambling in the mid-2000's the exempted fantasy sports from all of that. The 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Act signed by George Bush explicitly listed Fantasy Sports as a game of skill and therefore legal. The right people have been well aware of fantasy sports, it's the insider trading shyt that's got them in a jam.
