US prosecutors accuse Honduran president of taking drug money

US prosecutors have said that the president of Honduras met a drug trafficker in around 2013 and took $25,000 in exchange for protecting the trafficker from law enforcement.

The US attorney’s office for the southern district of New York issued a statement referring to President Juan Orlando Hernández only as a “high-ranking Honduran official” or as “CC-4”, a co-conspirator.

But in court documents, it identified “CC-4” as president of Honduras and brother of former congressman Juan Antonio Hernández Alvarado, who was convicted on drug charges last year. In previous filing, US prosecutors have described “CC-4” as the winner of the 2013 presidential elections.

It was not clear if the alleged incident involving the trafficker occurred before or after federal congressman Juan Orlando Hernández won the 2013 presidential election. He took office in January 2014.

He has not been charged and did not immediately comment on the allegations, but he has repeatedly denied earlier allegations of connections to traffickers.

US prosecutors arrested Geovanny Daniel Fuentes Ramírez at Miami international airport on Sunday on charges of conspiring to import cocaine into the US and related weapons charges.

They say Fuentes met with Juan Orlando Hernández on several occasions and spoke of a cocaine laboratory Fuentes was running near Puerto Cortes on the Atlantic coast.

Juan Orlando Hernández expressed interest in access to the lab because it was so close to the port, according to court documents, which did not explain why he was interested.

The documents say Juan Orlando Hernández and Fuentes agreed “to facilitate the use of Honduran armed forces personnel as security” for Fuentes’ drug-trafficking activities.

It also said that Hernández instructed Fuentes that his brother, Hernández Alvarado, “was managing drug-trafficking activities in Honduras and that Fuentes should report directly to Hernández Alvarado for purposes of drug trafficking”.

US attorney Geoffrey Berman said in the statement that “Fuentes Ramírez paved the way for unimpeded shipment of multi-ton loads of cocaine by bribing police and a high-ranking Honduran politician, and reporting directly to Tony Hernandez, another co-conspirator in the scheme and himself a former Honduran congressman”.

Of course they do JOH is a right-wing conservative and aligns himself ideologically with the Trump admin he is basically a US puppet. Also the US has indirectly or directly been in support of every single narco president since the military coup that ousted Zelaya in 09

Some props has to go to the Obama admin tho they were excellent in terms of their strategy in pressuring the Honduran gov. One example of this is when the Obama admin chose to divert US assistance to NGO's instead of it going to the hands of the Honduran gov which always would misteriously dissappear bascially corruption 101

But about the article i hope the US prosecutors officially charge JOH so they can take him down, but even so in the scenario that he loses his presidency (which is unlikely) and there are new elections the military will rig the elections and favor JOH's party because they are the ones in charge you could technically say that Honduras is a military dictatorship. Whomever the military supports wins an election in Honduras. Something that could be said about a buncha of other countries in latin america sadly :francis:

Southern District just sentenced a Guatemalan presidential candidate for conspiracy to traffic cocaine, and using machine guns in furtherance of a drug crime, about a month ago. It's all a series of connected cases through a high level CI or team of CI's, is my thought.

Guatemalan Presidential Candidate Charged With Conspiring To Import Cocaine Into The United States And Related Firearms Offense
Ur definifetly on to something because what all these central american presidents have in common is that their campaign fundings comes from the narcos/cartels and they also use the same liasions, theres a case where this Guatemalan liasion for the cartels reveals how she was funding the top Guatemalan party for their presdential run.
IIRC she also mentions the Honduran president where she says she funded their presidential candidancy, ima try to find the link later at work RN

This is related to that prison murder video that leaked late last year. Remember guy being led by prison guards, then a bunch of dudes bumrush him and shoot him until his head literally explodes. Then a mf stabs him repeatedly. He was the one who snitched on the president's brother and helped the feds with the prosecution.
