This is why when people question the American identity of Black Americans, they validate the beliefs expressed by this legislator, undermine any claims they have to the country itself, and also validate by extension any and all "go back to where you came from" rhetoric.
With the new arrivals in particular who fall into this specific category, its as if they are so focused on getting in some rhetoric against Black Americans that they lack the self awareness of self sabotage. You have an already prenational group of nonwhite population to point to as a repudiation of any white nationalist rhetoric against your people, but instead choose to validate said white nationalism as a gotcha to said prenational population? The definition of cutting your nose to spite your face.
So the "I'm just as American as you because I am a citizen" card flies out the window. You cant deny Black American claim to America as some sort of 'gotcha', while complaining of xenophobia to your own group. These people are really lucky the 300 million or so natives took the “settlers” in. It could have been war from the start and they get booted out back across the ocean. Like when they came to Africa, they were given courtesy once they reached these American continents by the Native/Indian Americans already here. Then these Natives’ immune systems got compromised because they weren’t used to the bad hygiene and disease started wiping them out. Then when they finally said “You got to go because your stank has wiped most of us out” they didn’t want to leave.
The smallpox, measles and influenza wiped out 90% of the Native population before the Pilgrims actually got here.
