US Summer Vacation spots

I'm trying to start planning a vacation for like July or August. I'm trying to stay US this time. I have never planned a vacation before, so I'm having a little trouble getting started. All I know is that the preferred destinations are Vegas, Houston, or somewhere in Cali. So here are some of the questions I'm trying to figure out. Let me know if there are other questions I should be asking:

• What events are happening?
• What is the cost of Travel and hotel?
• Are there things to do during the day?

Orbitz Travel: Airline Tickets, Cheap Hotels, Car Rentals, Vacations & Cruises is great for booking flights and hotels. from the 3 places you chose to go to you should find plenty to do more so in Vegas and Cali. i was only in Houston for a day but ive read its the most boring big city in the world plus it gets so hot during the summer you might wanna reevaluate that choice but honestly what do i know i barely even been there
