Why Is Venezuela in Crisis?

Second, while Venezuela has moved away from free-market capitalism, its economy is hardly socialist. The private sector, not the state (and still less the social economy), controls the overwhelming majority of economic activity. Between 1999 and 2011, the private sector’s share of economic activity increased, from 65 percent to 71 percent.

:ohhh: It's almost like the neocon/neoliberal attitude towards Venezuela is all bullshyt based around the petro state

Haven’t seen any statements from any progressives CPC members outside of Khanna and Ilhan.

A military intervention would be a shid show. Chavez made sure the military was full of Chavistas. If there was a coup, the counter coup would be vicious.

The plan is for Guaido to get access to Venezuela’s assets that are US based that are frozen by sanctions.

Bolsonaro would deploy the brazilian army at the orders of Trump ...

The only outlier here is China...

seems like both political extremes turn into authoritarian scum there, idk how you deal with decades/centuries of wealth inequality in Latin America, the US and Western Europe have by far done a greater job not that we don't have our own uneven and broken systems.

The first slave owners and settlers were single young men who wrote the laws ...

so...its their fault, right?

maduro deserves whats about to happen

Seriously, think about your logic and pray it never happens to our country for the dirt we did. Just because a leader is at fault doesn't justify foreign intervention or violence against them. Westphalian diplomacy was never perfect but this moral triumph neoliberalism/neoconservatism is screwing up our world.

I'm against intereventionalism but are we really gonna act like Maduro is a good leader? Nothing about Venezuela seems like a well run country. I think the right thing to do would be for them to have another election

I work for a bank and have clients in Venezuela. Trust me, the government has its hands all through the private sector.

Yeah , at the very least it's very highly regulated but to be honest so is the US, I think the issue is more Madero seems to be corrupt and obviously the big gest trading partner has levied a lot of sanctions. It's kind of hard to view Venezuela correctly in that light.

Brazil and Colombia aren’t going to invade Venezuela. Both countries have their own shid to deal with.

China and Russia back Maduro obviously and both of them own Venezuela. They may
seize Venezuela's oil assets abroad to repay debts.

Bad domestic issues is why you invade other countries tbh.

Citizens rally behind a war effort and you look “presidential”.

China will frustrate attempts to reach a resolution at the UNSC ( along with Russia) and use their financial backing to continue to prop Maduro. But there is zero chance they will deploy military forces.
