Real talk I love her art, but I went to the BMA with a woman who ain't an artist and it was Self's solo exhibit. The heterosexual Black Woman I was with verbally told me how uncomfortable she was.

Ol gal had statues bent over yoni fully exposed. And paintings of people fukking in mixed Media with fabric. All I could do was laugh cause Imma pervert so it ain't bother me, but the last I was with was really disgusted and she ain't a pride at all.

I am her and she is me lol. I don't like it

Her pieces give off sexual deviant vibes

Maaaan Im on the phone with a PhD Art Historian and she told me straight up I was being gatekeeper over the black female body. She was saying also that she didn't find it explicit. So yes...my sexuality and gender blocked me from painting the feminine form that I appreciate of my female counterpart.

I like Tschaballa Self art tho. Yes and I did with those. Y'all have to stop equating any black freehand drawn art to what you know and actually understand art history.

By constantly comparing every black art to 1 singular artist in history is ignorant. Nothing I've done looks like Basquiat and definitely not Andy Warhol....pop art has other forms as well.

This is unfortunately pretty accurate. In my time in that field I noticed how much motion brehs would get when they were on the other side

I'd be accepting of everyone and didn't care about folks being gay or trans, but when they could tell I wasn't living like that I'd get neutral treatment......all I was worried about was my $ anyway
