Nycrebel is correct.

Gunit and dipset are in that era NYC music became "acceptable" to other regions. Especially gunit. Lowkey...50 cent blew easier because.....yall going trip, and it also went for DMX....but they sneak had SOUTHERN sound.

The second I quoted even has a clue: blood nikkas. By the time that element was in NY...NY was over.

No more heavy on the NY accent. Made Cam say "when da fukk we start bouncin".

Yeah, DMX had Swizz Beats.

Dipset competed with the same crowd that like Nelly and Lil Jon on some of their songs.

ITS ME MALACHI THE NUTCRACKER (LONG ASS PAUSE) I CRACK NUTS, NUTS IS GETTING CRACKED UP :deadrose:
I can't believe I'm about to defend Malachi, but I think dude is severely mentally ill. I heard stories about him doing things like taking a shyt in the corner of the room and stuff like that. I think he might actually even be homeless now. I think Malachi even being able to function outside of a prison or mental institution was a miracle. The dude can't even take care of himself. It's pretty crazy he was able to rap at all.

That group is garbo. They always received love, but lyrically they are garbo.

When MOP first came out, they were lyrically garbo. They great now, but that first album was not NYC standard as far as bars. I've never heard anyone say what I just said.

Well they were a decade apart, when ballin came post mid 2000’s hiphop music had become ingrained in every part of life, way more than it was in the 90’s

OK let's get it right about these two hit records. "We Fly High" was a big hit for sure but it wasn't bigger than "Benji's" How? Benji's was way bigger. And Yes Lox deserves a lot of credit for that song though Puff, Kim and Big were on it and surely made it popular as well. That song in the 90's in real time was Damn near EVERYWHERE Radio, MTV, BET, Sporting events, commercials, etc Plus all the Rock Remixes. And it was a bigger hit on the Charts than "We Fly High". Ice Cube made a whole damn Movie with the title "All about the Benji's". The song was a phenomenon. On what Planet is "We fly high" bigger than "Benji's"? Benjamin's changed the lexicon, it's a common phrase now that's how popular it was.

"We Fly High"
#5 Pop Charts
#1 Rap Charts
#4 R&B/Hip Hop Charts

2006 Year End Billboard Charts: 28

"All About The Benji's"
#2 Pop Charts
#1 Rap Charts
#1 R&B/Hip Hop Charts
#2 Hot 100 Singles Sales (Physical Sales)

1997 Year End Billboard Charts: 19

Matter of fact both "Oh Boy" and "Hey Ma" were bigger than "We Fly High" too so how is it seeing Benji's? Benji's was a success in the 90's when Rap had more competition from R&B, Rock, Country and Pop on the charts. The Only Reason Benji's wasn't a #1 single on the Pop Charts is because Puffy and Bad Boy was blocking themselves with all their hits. "Been Around The World" also got stuck at #2 because of this. "We Fly High" though a hit as well....was never a bigger single and had more impact than "Benji's" did. With all that said, Benji's is a Posse cut and "We Fly High" was a solo cut. Props to Jimmy for getting a hit like that. But it wasn't bigger than Benji's.

(Everyone knows the words to Benji's, lol)

Man, im still hype off last night.

Woke singing "Got a hunnid guns a hunnid clips...nikka I'm from new yawwwwwwwk"
full

"New York, New York" go so much play in the streets. Ja wasn't getting the press he used to so they tired to downplay that song but it always went hard. That beat and those three bodied it. It was still a Top 10 Rap Hit too.

I now think Jay-Z would kill Drake in a Verzuz

If this is at the Garden then Yes I don't know if he would kill Drake in the south or the north though. Also Dips had a trash DJ and trash stage presence and there music wasn't curated properly. Both Jay-Z and Drake are worlwide acts best believe if these two went head to head it would be on some state of the art versuz. Only way Jay will get Drake is if he does a freestyle verse which we know Drake is weak at that.

Real talk the savviest hip hop move of the late 90’s/early 00’s was Jay Z sharking Jadakiss on those R Kelly & Mya remixes. And then avoiding Jada and letting Beans battle him.

Completely blocked Kiss from hitting the peak he was gonna hit. He’s a far better emcee and bboy than any of his peers.
:ohhh: Maaan listen
