I always felt like that site tried too hard to be cool. I started going there a few years ago but stopped because it felt like the writing was just too cool. Sounds weird but it wasn't a natural cool. Ima try again but even the first article I read (today) just seemed like they were trying (Kylie Irving article). I get it, the articles are more conversational than anything but the writing is just weird to me. Ima keep trying tho, I did like a few articles a few years back
most black yuppies didn't grow up in the hood, so their attachment to the urban culture they criticize, appropriate, reference and still utilize to affirm their own blackness is from a somewhat superficial level. that's why they come off as trying too hard.
Vsb always gave me a vibe of weak, effeminate, passive aggressive, new black, liberal bullshyt.
So at first I was about to call you guys out for sounding like hating ass nikkas, since none of you gave any valid reasons for thinking the way you do.
But then I thought about it, and since I've never ever heard of VSB.com until just now, I decided to see for myself and noticed two things stick out to me when I visit the site.
1. The name of the site is subliminally pretentious
2. The site is atrocious - they should fire their designer immediately
Somehow, I think this has a lot to do with it because I don't particularly care for anything I've seen either, even though the style of conversation seems like something I should enjoy - not too much different than the coli actually, but feels more comfortable here.
Sorry this kind of stuff is just interesting to me.
