not if you have a pet that you find out very early on is going to be sick all the time. I have a dog with bad allergies, been insured since 4 months old, almost 10 now and the insurance has paid for itself a dozen times over
That wasn't my case, and it's probably not in most cases. My dog died a horrible death his last day because those insurance crooks had me thinking they weren't going to pay for his heart related issues anymore, since they already helped me with a $500 charged three months before, when he was first diagnosed with heart disease. Knowing he might get worst after that diagnoses, I called my insurance company later ahead of time, to see if they would cover him for future heart related problems. I thought I read somewhere that they wouldn't, since they already knew he had a heart condition. Anyway. they started talking some language that I couldn't understand, but it sounded like no more than likely. When he got worst a few months later, the vet wanted to keep him for the weekend, and wanted $3,000, which I couldn't afford. A few weeks after my dog passed away at home, I called to cancel the policy. That's when I found out they would have covered their portion of the $3,000 charge after all, and my dog would have lasted longer, or at least long enough to go peacefully in his sleep, or at the vet where they could have put him to sleep peacefully. I still don't know how I would have felt, if I took him in that night a few weeks later to have him put to sleep, something I was about to do around 11:30pm, after spending all that day struggling to keep him alive. Because of poor to no advice from that vet, he had also developed that condition where he couldn't keep food or water down, unless you fed it to him real slow. Although he had gotten very week, mostly because of that medication, and no advice on how much of that Science Diet dog food to give him, which he loved, he was very alert. Up to the day he died, he was still able to bark at the door bell, and still able to walk, but barely. This is why I couldn't bring myself to have him put him to sleep. He had this will to live that was unbelievable.
When dealing with the pet insurance people, you have to have either worked at one before, or know something about medical billing in a pet insurance environment. At one time, vet's would help put down the right diagnoses so your insurance would pay, or even fill your insurance claim out for you. These sorry vets wouldn't do either one, even when my dog got very ill. I feel like this whole system needs to go.
