…they had access to a black woman’s DNA and ran a check on it on a whim…it just so happened she was involved in another crime
-Nah. This shyt says she was arrested on a felony property charge & the rape kit DNA was how they IDENTIFIED her. They weren't just sitting around testing Black women samples on a whim & found something.
-I actually saw an episode of SVU where some similar shyt happened.

I don’t think you fully understood what you read

Aides to Mr. Boudin said the office learned of the practice last week when the Police Department identified a woman who was recently arrested on a felony property crime charge based on DNA samples that she had given earlier when she reported that she had been sexually assaulted.

The Ummah!
If they checking your dna from 23 n me then fukk it. People should know if they give dna samples they're on file forever. Unless its made completely illegal and u have to collect dna each time with a warrant then dispose of it after a single testing

nah, there needs to be a nationwide forensic firewall between rape victims DNA and criminal suspect DNA searches.
And know that they making a database of DNA no matter how they get it

Nah.. If a woman murdered someone she should be caught.. fukk you talmbout

I don't want the government to build a suspect DNA database based on DNA obtained from rape kits. If someone is suspected of a crime can get their DNA using other legal methods. I don't support dragnet DNA/data collection by LEO.

I don’t see the problem…just like if they got your prints they will run them.

Don’t do the crime….DNA don’t discriminate, it go in a database :hubie: and actually helpful in solving crimes especially cold cases.

the way they obtain fingerprints is problematic as well. NYPD been picking up minorities for bullshyt reasons for decades and fingerprinting them knowing charges won't stick. the entire point is to collect info on community members. people that are questioned and are no longer suspected of having committed a crime should absolutely have their fingerprint records expunged if they had no prior criminal record.

“Victims are being treated like criminals”

She is a felon. A literal criminal. What a fukking dumb article

they didn't collect her DNA in the course of a investigation of a crime she committed. what they did was similar to what a lot of police do to black drivers who aren't suspected of any crime and got randomly get their plates ran.

it's similar to police stopping people for a "traffic violation" and searching the contents of their phone for criminal activities which has nothing to do with what initiated the stop in the first place.
